This release represents the first fully 3D version of Dragon's Lair that allows you to move Dirk in any direction. The game featured a number of animation techniques that were unique at the time but were ultimately not enough to save this game from being a commercial failure.
For fans, this version is certainly fun and interacting with elements from the original game that have been re-imagined is an experience. The game also features all new villains and locations within the castle.
The game appeared on the Xbox, Gamecube and PC format within North America and was released on the PS2 only in Europe as a Special Edition. It is believed that technical difficulties on the PS2 were the reason the game was delayed, and then poor sales on the other platforms were the reason it was not brought over to North America.
